Celebrating Eastertide with Riverkids
Last Sunday (May 5), we kicked off our new series, This Changes Everything! In the church calendar, Easter is not just one day. Easter is a season when we celebrate Jesus' resurrection and how this changes the way we see life and death, and what we thought was impossible and possible. During Eastertide the children will hear stories of Jesus' appearance to his disciples after the resurrection. We are going to explore what this resurrection reality might mean for us, here and now, and how we can live it out. Art Show/Auction coming soon! Over the next several weeks, Riverkids & Youth are going to be involved in a variety of art projects that show how God is making things new and breathing life into everything. Our world is forever changed because of Jesus' resurrection! These artworks will be displayed and auctioned off after the service on Pentecost (June 9) to benefit Asha-usa.org, our non-profit partner with the mission of transforming lives in the slums of Delhi. This is going to be a fun, exciting, and colorful season, so please bring your children along on Sundays :D We would love to include everyone in the art show! Amelia Cunard | Riverkids Director Dear River Families,
I hope you are as excited as I am about celebrating Lent: 40 Days of Faith! The 40 Days of Faith has always been a hallmark in our family life. It gives me and my husband a reason and room in our hectic life to be more intentional in growing our faith and deepening our connections with our children. From my experience with Riverkids, storytelling has always been the children’s favorite time. It is a special way for them to meet and interact with God. With this Family Guide, I would like to share this experience with you, our River parents. I invite you and your children to explore the stories in the book of Mark with wonder, curiosity and openness. In this guide I am sharing some tips, some “wondering questions”, and prayers that are designed to help us enter deeper into the story. My hope in this season is that your family will be “Surprised by Jesus”. Jesus - who might be different from our expectations and assumptions, who speaks and shows us new ways to look at and approach our life situations, and shows us how to engage God, others, and the world around us. Warmly, Amelia Cunard | Riverkids Director WEEK 1 FAMILY GUIDE | WEEK 2 FAMILY GUIDE | WEEK 3 FAMILY GUIDE WEEK 4 FAMILY GUIDE | WEEK 5 FAMILY GUIDE | WEEK 6 FAMILY GUIDE also available from the RiverNYC App. Last Sunday (Feb 3) the children got to learn the different types of feelings and reflect on what is going on deep down. Together with the grown ups on the 13th floor, the children listened to the story of Peter and Jesus. They took a little bit of time to answer the question “Do you love me?” and access the depths of their hearts. Their reflections revealed their honest feelings at the moment without fear or punishment and judgement.
Happy New Year! I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and holiday. 2019 is here and RiverKids/Youth are starting a new series this Sunday (1/13), called "Living & Loving Together". We will explore different stories from the Bible to discover the joy of connection and strengthening our capabilities for life giving relationships. We're really excited for the children to learn how to develop strong friendships and treasure their connections.
For the last 10 weeks the RiverKids (along with the River Youth and the larger church) have been enjoying an exciting series called "The Power of Holy Spirit in Ordinary Time". The goal of the series is to help the children explore and experience the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives.
Here's a closer look at what we have been doing to help the children access and interact the quiet and constant presence of the Holy Spirit: |
