What To Expect

What you can expect if you visit this Sunday:

When and Where: 10:30 AM at the Leadership & Public Service High School (90 Trinity Place).

First and foremost, we hope you feel warmly welcomed! We think you’ll find the River to be a friendly, accessible, and vibrant community whether you are a lifelong churchgoer or are thinking about spiritual things for the first time. Dress is casual. You won't be pressured in any way and you can be as anonymous as you wish. General childcare is available during the 10:30 AM service. On a typical Sunday we'll have a couple hundred adults and about 75 kids. Here's what happens:

Grab a coffee, tea, or pastry: As you enter the Lobby of 90 Trinity Place from the street you'll see our info table with materials sharing what's up at the River. Grab a Sunday program and a "New to the River" brochure and enjoy a complimentary treat from Au Bon Pain.

Head Upstairs: Our main services meet in the Auditorium on the 2nd floor. (Got kids? You're welcome to keep them with you or, if you prefer, drop them off at RiverKids--more info here.)  Grab any seat that looks comfortable. The service lasts about 65-75 minutes and include the following:

  • Kickoff: We begin with a couple songs and then provide a brief moment to say hi to one another. Next, we'll share some announcements about things that are happening at the River.
  • The Sermon, lasts about 30 minutes and typically explores different ways that faith can enhance our lives. (You can listen to recent sermons here.)
  • Response Time: After the talk we'll have about 15 minutes to think about and respond to what we've just heard with music, prayer, reflection, or communion
  • Wrap-up: After the service everyone is welcome to stick around for snacks and an optional social time. If you'd like to get on our mailing list, please be sure to fill out the "Connection Card" portion of your Sunday program.
