Read Faith Stories

God can make an actual Difference!

The River believes God can make an actual difference in people's lives in meaningful, miraculous ways. We have many stories of answered prayers. This is why we offer prayer at every Sunday service. We also try a faith experiment every year during the period of Lent. We call this "40 Days of Faith."

Here are some remarkable stories of answered prayers:

Health

"My dad was diagnosed with macular degeneration a year or so ago. My grandmother also had this disease which rendered her legally blind. My dad was obviously upset about the forthcoming loss of his vision. My dad was one of my five during 40 Days and I prayed for God to intervene in my dad's treatment to cure him of his disease and also to help him find peace. A couple days ago I checked in with him to see how his treatment was progressing. He was in great spirits and said his doctor told him the macular degeneration appears to have stopped growing and in fact may be shrinking! Praise God!"

Healing

"I want to share the great things that the Lord my Father has done for me and my family. Early last year, my husband was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer that spread to the liver. We were told by the doctors to star traditional treatment but were given no hope for remission. The cancer was too advanced and inoperable. They said that chemotherapy was only to help him with the symptoms. We were devastated. I went to the Lord the only way I knew how. I prayed and prayed. I was desperate. I started reading the Bible and looking for God with all my heart.  Until I found him. I started to hear God’s voice and I started feeling a peace that I have never felt before. Treatment after treatment, we prayed for blessing and the result was always manifested through very little side effects.

About two and half months later, the oncologist sent my husband for his first scan since we started treatment. The result was an unbelievable reduction of his numerous tumors in his liver and a total irradiation of the tumor in the colon. At this point the doctor said it was possible to have surgery to remove what was left. He underwent the first surgery with great success but a slow difficult recovery. He was sad, weak, lost a lot of weight but God took great care of him and a few months later, he was looking great. In early March of this year he underwent a second surgery that eliminated all cancer cells from his body. I can’t express how much gratitude I feel for my Lord. My faith for God is the best I have. I now know of his unconditional love."

New BUsiness

"For our first ever lent me and my wife asked big—something we’ve always wanted, our own business. For fasting, we chose to go big also, we gave up all drinking. No coffee, tea, juice, soda, hot chocolate, alcohol. Just water. Only some days into Lent, the unthinkable happened— funding just came in from an unexpected source. We test-ran for a week and decided it was worth the risk. A week later, I quit my job, and last week, 5 1/2 weeks into Lent, was my last day working for my old employer. Both of us still can’t quite believe what happened—or how or why. But God gave us something we truly wanted and we are incredibly thankful. We joyfully look forward to wonderful times ahead, especially celebrating this gift with a glorious glass of wine after Lent. :)"

New Birth

"About a year ago [a member] of the prayer team prayed with me and my husband as we asked God to bless us with a child. [The prayer team member] heard from God and told me that he sees that there will be an answer to our prayers in the next six months. Moreover, he told me that God has a big purpose for us. And it happened! Our prayers were answered with a beautiful baby boy. :) and we are excitedly looking forward to seeing what else God has in store for us. The River has brought so much joy into my life; I'm so happy to be a part of it."

Breaking Through

"One day during the 40 Days, I was prayer journaling, asking God for something. He seemed to say, “Okay, now jump into this prayer! How can you jump into this situation to help bring about what you’re asking for?” It was such a positive, energizing suggestion! Getting me thinking about how I can act with God’s support to make the very things I’ve been talking to God about actually happen! As I’ve been acting on these things IT HAS ACTUALLY BEEN WORKING! Thank you God and thank you River!"

Finding Work

"So for this Lenten season I had been asking God for a full-time job. I've been out of school now for three years and have been praying for one, but have never had the doors open to any full-time positions. Yesterday morning I went to an interview for a full-time position, that was presented to me through a staffing agency. I thought the interview went well, and I left a message with the staffing agency to report what had happened. Two hours after my meeting, the staffing agent called me back and told me that I'd been offered the position. I am shocked! I've been praying for a job for so long, it's so unreal. Now I can start paying off my student debt and put money towards starting my own business. It's so crazy that in all the jobs I've applied for and all the companies that I've wanted to work for, this is the one that God opened the doors to. I'm excited to see what adventure He is taking me on as my faith grows from this experience and my hope abounds though this answered prayer."
