dan's story
As a Wall Street investment banker, it's not uncommon for Dan to work 12- to 14-hour days or more during the week. Although he lives in Battery Park City with his wife and two young boys, he often doesn't get to see his family until the weekend.
Before attending The River, Dan struggled to find a way to fuse his life experiences and what he knew about science and culture with what he knew about the Bible. He would try to jam the two together without much success.
However, when Dan started to attend services at The River, he found a church for open-minded people in NYC that finally helped him see how the Bible and life work together.
A New Way to Understand God
"I got to see a side of God I wasn't necessarily exposed to during my youth. And it was just very, very powerful," Dan said. "It's one of those experiences you'll never forget."
Dan started to realize that what he thought he understood about the Bible wasn't correct. The River helped him see that science and modern culture do fit together with God and life. This realization led to an entirely new understanding of how he could have profound encounters with God in his everyday life.
That experience and many more have helped shape Dan into the man he is today -- who is very different from the man who first came to The River several years ago.
"A lot of people I have known over the last decade would probably say I have changed for the better, and that i am a different person," Dan said. Now, instead of merely trying to survive another grueling 12- to 14-hour day, The River has helped Dan discover a deeper sense of purpose.
