Brent's Story
Brent was in the middle of a faith crisis that had lasted over 10 years when he moved to New York City. While dealing with a divorce and coming to terms with the fact that he was gay, Brent was in the midst of a painful, lonely spiritual search for something real. He didn't attend church for a while, finding the entire concept hurtful. Then he found The River.
An Enormous Blessing
Attending The River was the first time that Brent felt loved and accepted as an LGBTQ Christian, calling it an "enormous blessing." Since his first visit to The River, Brent's faith crisis has ended, and he's now discovered a new and personal relationship with God that he was searching for.
"I love the pastors of The River for how they have created a body that is so loving and welcoming and open," Brent said. "And they did that at enormous cost to themselves. It's the best expression of the body of Christ that I've ever experienced."
A Church for LGBTQ Christians
One of our core convictions at The River is Jesus champions inclusion, not judgment. We believe Jesus extends his love and forgiveness to everyone, including LGBTQ individuals, which is why our church welcomes people from a variety of different backgrounds. If you identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Trans, Queer or Questioning and are looking for a church home, The River wants to welcome you with open arms! We invite LGBTQ Christians to participate at every level in the life of our church. There's a place for everyone inside our doors.
More About The River
We can trace our roots back to 2004 when a group of people came to New York with a vision to build a church focused on Jesus. Since then, we've helped people throughout NYC experience amazing relationships with God and each other. When you come to The River, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere and a diverse community that's all looking to grow closer to God together.
Our pastors' thought-provoking sermons will also give you practical tips on how to integrate faith in your daily life. Plus, programs such as our life groups, classes and RiverKids will get the whole family involved.
